Socrates Triple Filter Test
I read a very interesting test for supressing gossips n rumours......
As you all know, in ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem.
One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?"
Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Three Filter Test.
"Three filter?"
That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the three filter test.
The first filter is TRUTH. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?
"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and..."
All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of GOODNESS. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"
No… on the contrary..."
So," Socrates cuts in, "you want to tell me something bad about him, and you're not even sure if it's true?"
The man was beginning to look a bit embarrassed now.
Socrates continues, "You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of USEFULNESS. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"
"No, not really"
Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, then my child, why tell me about it all?"
Hearing this, the man apologized and went on his way......
Really friends if we follow these simple rules then we can avoid lot of conflicts and misunderstandings. Moreover, we can save lot of energy to divert for productive work.

indeed ur article is very good... we all must follow these three filters... knowingly or unknowingly we ill-speak for others, which is wrong n which must be taken care of... I'll practice these three filters in my life frm now itself... Good work Doc Saahab, keep it up...

interesting article I must say. But what if the other person replies differently to each question?
for example in reply to first he says that our friend has done something bad to him only so it has to be true. And to third he may say ," yes it may be useful for you as you may want to be cautious too!!"
still worth the thought!
Dolly, You can stretch your imagination to any limit, however, if one has trust in other person who is referred, than whatever may come, one should not listen non sense about that person.
I think this will keep relationships unbiased.
